Powder coating applies a dry finish that is cured to form a hard, even, colour-fast surface, and it is available for suitable steel, stainless steel and aluminium items, with preparation and coating systems selected according to the substrate, environment and required finish. It suits newly fabricated steel, gates, frames, structural and fabricated components, commercial, residential and industrial metalwork, and existing items being refinished. Where powder coating is not the right answer, painted and protective coating options are also available.

Worth knowing before you enquire.
- Fabricate → prepare → powder coat → complete: a fabricated item can move through cutting, bending and welding, abrasive preparation and powder coating within the one workshop where the job requires it.
- Not every coating system suits every environment. Substrate, preparation, exposure and expected service conditions are considered when selecting an appropriate finish.
- Item size must suit workshop handling — send dimensions with your enquiry.
- Colour, gloss level and texture are confirmed before work starts, subject to availability.
- Coastal and heavy industrial exposure may be better served by a protective coating or painted system.
- Powder coating is applied to a whole item; masking requirements should be identified up front.

What colours are available?+
Powder coating is available in a broad range of colours and finish styles. Westforge can help identify suitable colour, gloss level, texture and coating options based on the item, use and environment. Exact colour matching is not promised without confirming the available powder.
Can I choose matt, satin or gloss?+
Yes — gloss, satin, matt and textured finishes can be discussed, subject to availability of a suitable powder for the item and environment.
Can you powder coat something that has already been painted or coated?+
Usually yes. The existing coating is removed by abrasive blasting or another suitable method, and the item is assessed for condition before recoating.
Do you blast or prepare items before powder coating?+
Yes. Abrasive blasting and surface preparation are carried out in the same workshop, so items can be prepared and coated without transport in between.
What finish is suitable for outdoor or coastal use?+
It depends on the substrate, exposure and expected service conditions. Near the coast a more robust preparation and coating system is usually appropriate, and in harsher environments a protective or painted system may suit better than powder coating.

Powder coating suits most general and decorative metalwork. Painted and protective systems suit harsher service environments or items that cannot be cured in the workshop. We will advise based on where the item will live.
