What Information Do We Need for a Fabrication Quote?

Short answer
A description of the item, its dimensions, the material and finish you want, the quantity, where it will be used and when you need it. Drawings, photographs or a sample part make quoting faster and more accurate.
The useful basics
You do not need engineering drawings to start, but the more of this you can provide, the faster the quote.
- What the item is and what it does
- Dimensions, or a sketch with measurements
- Material preference, if you have one
- Quantity — one-off, batch or repeat
- Required finish: powder coating, protective coating or unfinished
- Where the item will be used, including coastal or industrial exposure
- Timeframe and delivery or collection preference
If you have drawings
Send them. PDFs, CAD exports, photographs of a marked-up sketch or a photograph of the existing item alongside a tape measure all help.
If you do not
Photographs and rough measurements are usually enough to have a sensible conversation and identify what still needs confirming.
Limitations worth noting
- Quotes are based on the information provided; assumptions are stated so they can be corrected.
- Site measurement may be needed for items that must fit an existing opening or structure.
