How the terms are usually used

The words are used loosely, so the practical question is what the item has to protect and where it fixes.

• Guardrail — a continuous run along a wall, aisle, racking line or edge
• Barrier — a shorter, heavier unit at a specific impact point such as a door frame or column
• Protection rail — a general description for any rail protecting an asset
• Protection frame — a frame built around equipment rather than a straight run

Because fabrication, blasting and coating happen in one workshop, the finished item can be prepared and powder coated or protectively coated as part of the same scope.

• Items are fabricated to the agreed project scope and dimensions. Engineering or certification requirements are confirmed separately where applicable.
• Impact-rated or load-rated requirements should be identified before fabrication begins.
• Site fixing conditions — slab thickness, services and access — affect what is practical.
